Young scholars gather for a science showdown at Pennsylvania Junior Academy event
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Over 500 young scientists and scholars from across northeastern Pennsylvania gathered at Wilkes University today to showcase their research and compete in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition.
The event brought together students with a shared passion for discovery, all competing for a chance to advance to the statewide competition.
“l love to be around people who think just like me. I go to a very small school, so we don’t have any exciting science clubs. To be able to come here and see over 500 students, all interested in the same thing as me with the same passion, is just unbelievable,” said JoEllen Jones, 10th Grader at Forest City Regional School.
Jones took home a first-place award for a project testing protein level in different pH environments in eggs.
Students will now move on to the statewide competition in May at Penn State.
