If you know your Nintendo history then you’re no doubt aware that the system we know as the NES was the western release of the Japanese Family Computer or Famicom for short. As the name suggests, the Famicom was made to be both a game system as well as functional computer, and while there were some plans to bring this functionality westward those plans never came to fruition.
Today, a YouTuber by the name of Throaty Mumbo has done what Ninten-don’t and modded an NES to function as a true 90’s PC complete with disk drive and mouse support. This is accomplished by utilizing an EverDrive N8 Pro cartridge and its onboard Cyclone IV FPGA and does not rely on the NES’s processor to execute x86 code.
If you want the full breakdown on how the system works and to see the console in action you can check out Throaty Mumbo’s original video on the subject posted above.
