Zeenat Aman celebrates her “short but fruitful” modelling career with nostalgic Instagram post: “There’s a charm to print advertisements that video can never replicate” : Bollywood News
Zeenat Aman’s Instagram has steadily become a time capsule of Indian pop culture—and her latest post is a perfect example. On June 4, the veteran actress and former model treated her followers to a rare glimpse into her modelling years, sharing four striking throwback advertisements from the 60s and 70s.
Zeenat Aman celebrates her “short but fruitful” modelling career with nostalgic Instagram post: “There’s a charm to print advertisements that video can never replicate”
Each image, accompanied by a heartfelt caption, reflects not only a distinct phase of Zeenat’s early career but also the cultural aesthetic of the era—be it the bouffant hairstyles, bold eyeliner, or the persuasive optimism of vintage ad copy. “It is such a pity that I am an awful archivist,” she wrote. “Almost all my material memories have been lost over the years… Which is why I love stumbling across my old work online.”
The first photo featured Zeenat as the face of an Air India campaign from the 70s, sporting traditional attire with a solemn expression. The tagline—“Long after you leave India, India will still be with you”—along with references to “dark-haired beauties” and “exotic shops” drew her own commentary: “I love this ad, but I suspect it would be sharply critiqued today for all its ‘exotic’ exuberance.”
The second image shows her alongside author and former model Shobhaa De, both draped in traditional jewellery and styling typical of the era. “Bouffants and cat eyes!” Zeenat recalled, adding that years later, she and Shobhaa recreated the frame for fun during an event in Australia.
In the third image, Zeenat exuded a playful, Western-influenced vibe as a “flower power poster girl” for a Krimpex ad, posing in a striped mini-dress. The caption hinted at her time spent in California in the late ’60s on a scholarship, revealing how deeply the countercultural fashion of the West impacted her sense of style.
The final picture shows Zeenat from her long-standing association with Lux soap—a familiar face in a long list of Bollywood actresses featured in the brand’s legacy campaigns. “They ran a number of advertisements with my mug,” she joked in her trademark dry wit.
Despite the era-locked visuals, Zeenat’s post made it clear that each campaign holds emotional significance. Whether it’s nostalgia, critique, or humour, the 72-year-old actor continues to engage with her past in ways that are both personal and public.
