ZF Launches Electric Park Brake Production in India for Electric Vehicles, ETAuto

EPB Karosserie SchattenGlobal technology firm ZF has commenced production of its electric park brake (EPB) system in India, marking its first deployment in a passenger vehicle in the country and aligning with its broader localisation strategy. The system makes its debut on an all-electric platform from a leading Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

According to the company’s statement, the EPB system offers benefits such as reduced drag, low noise, and improved fuel efficiency. It also integrates seamlessly with the vehicle’s braking system, enabling two-wheel anti-lock emergency stops, dynamic actuation, and brake pad wear sensing. The touch-button activation and elimination of traditional mechanical components further enhance driver safety and convenience.

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group in India, said, “The SOP of ZF’s first Electric Park Brake in India, on a product like the all-new EV car platform, embodies ZF’s commitment to offer leading mobility solutions for local requirements. With advanced systems like the EPB, we are not only enhancing vehicle safety and performance but also supporting Indian automakers in providing world-class and safe products.”

The EPB can be scaled across a range of vehicle types, providing flexibility for Indian OEMs seeking to meet varying performance and design requirements, the company said.

Globally, ZF has supplied more than 250 million EPB callipers and continues to expand its portfolio of electronically controlled steering, braking and damping systems geared toward software-defined vehicles.
