Basic issues seem like ‘rocket science’ to government says Opposition Leader

Leader of the Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr Godwin Friday said there are several problems in the country that can be easily solved, but it is as if the government has no idea how to solve even the most minor of these.

Friday’s comment were made on Monday, September 9, 2024, during the New Times radio program on Nice Radio, and follows on the heels of a complaint last week by Lawyer, Grant Connell about air-conditioning, ventilation and wash room issues at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The Opposition Leader told listeners that it seems there is a problem when it comes to air-condition units, as many government-operated offices and facilities have broken air-conditioning units.

He said that during a visit to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), he did not specify when, he observed the door of the room used for the sterilization of hospital equipment opened.

“…so, I asked how is this possible, this is supposed to be a secure, clean environment, and they said ‘the AC not working so we can’t work in here without opening the door’…so I asked ‘how long that was going’, and they said ‘nine months’ without an air-conditioner in the sterilization room.

“I mean, come on man- and that was in the hospital….”

He added that there are numerous complaints about air-conditioning in police stations, certain places at the Argyle International Airport (AIA) “and numerous other places” not functioning, and the persons responsible are making basic problems “seem like if they are rocket science”.

“It’s just because the government has lost their grip, if they ever had any, and lost touch with the problems of the ordinary folks,” Friday concluded.
