Hyundai Exter SUV Crosses 1 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone in India

Since its launch in July last year, the Hyundai Exter has sold over 1 lakh units in India. Notably, as of June 30, the SUV’s sales were only 6,338 units shy of meeting this record. Following the Creta midsize SUV and the Venue, the Exter compact SUV ranks as the Korean automaker’s third best-selling SUV. In FY2024, the SUV sold 71,301 units, representing 18% of Hyundai’s overall SUV sales (3,88,725 units). It had projected sales of 22,361 units during the first quarter of 2024, making up 22% of Hyundai UV’s 1,00,745 unit sales. The Venue had 28,337 units, or a 28% share, and the Creta 46,402 units, or 46% share. In July, Hyundai introduced the Knight Edition of the Exter in India, based on the SX and SX (O) models. This version comes with an all-black treatment and is priced between Rs 8.38 lakh and Rs 10.43 lakh (both, ex-showroom).

Hyundai Exter: Powertrain

The compact SUV from Hyundai has a 1.2-litre Kappa 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 113.8Nm and is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. A CNG option, with power and outputs of 68bhp and 95.2Nm, and a five-speed manual transmission is also available. 

Hyundai Exter: Exterior and Interior

The SUV has a black mesh radiator grille, an H-shaped LED daytime running light, projector headlights, black side panels, diamond-cut alloys, a roof spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, a rear wiper, and H-shaped LED taillights. Inside, it sports semi-leatherette-like seat fabric, a blacked-out theme, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai’s BlueLink-connected car technology, a digital instrument cluster, a dual camera, a wireless charger, cruise control, footwell lighting, metal pedals, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and rear AC vents. 

For safety, the Exer SUV packs a host of amenities, such as a rear defogger, 6 airbags, three-point seat belts and reminders for all five seats, a burglar alarm, child seat anchor (ISOFIX), ABS with EBD, rear parking camera, hill assist control, electronic stability control (ESC), automatic headlamps, and vehicle stability management.

Hyundai Exter: Price and Competitors

The SUV costs between Rs 6.13 lakh and Rs 10.43 lakh (both, ex-showroom). In terms of market rivalry, Hyundai’s SUV locks horns with the Citroen C3, the Tata Punch, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and the Renault Kiger.
