Air India Express wore Kerala’s own ‘Kasavu’ as part of Onam season
Ernakulam: The low-cost airline Air India Express has joined the Onam festivities as its brand-new Boeing 737-8 aircraft featured the tail art inspired by the traditional “kasavu” design, part of the Malayali attire in the state of Kerala. The flight wore the traditional look as it took-off to Bangalore from the Cochin international airport.
“This is our token of love towards all the Malayalees who celebrate Onam and for those fliers who travel to celebrate Onam to various locations with their dear ones”, said Deepak Kumar, a staff member of Air India Express.

To mark the Onam occasion, Air India Express staff in Kochi welcomed the aircraft, registered as VT-BXM, dressed in traditional Kasavu dhotis and sarees.
The airline’s boarding counters were a with Onam-themed decorations, including a “pookkalam”, a floral arrangement and the floral carpets were arranged under the tarmac under the aircraft’s wings and in front of the check-in counters and each guest on this flight was warmly welcomed with a kasavu shawl. The aircraft operated on the Kochi – Bengaluru route on Wednesday at 10 am. Each passenger were also handed Onam gifts by the airline management.
“The ‘Kasavu’ is a handwoven fabric unique to Kerala, is known for its distinctive off-white or cream colour complemented by golden borders. Symbolising purity, prosperity, and auspiciousness, the fabric often features intricate motifs such as floral patterns, peacocks, elephants, and geometric designs. This is our tribute to all the Malayalees and especially those who are travelling even in these busy schedule to other states to join their near and dear ones,” said a spokesperson of AIE.
