Hemant Birje was one such personality who broke records with Babbar Subhash’s ‘Adventures of Tarzan’.

In 1985, a young actor made history with his debut movie Tarzan. While he gained immense popularity and a dedicated fan following after that one movie, stars like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt used to come to see him in action. It was Tarzan that made him a superstar overnight. Do you know he was known for having a superfit body in the industry at that time? Even Salman Khan used to take tips from him. There were reports that Govinda and Dharmendra refused to work with this actor at one point, maybe due to his increase stardom.

Actor Hemant Birje was one such personality who broke records with Babbar Subhash’s ‘Adventures of Tarzan’. Within a span of 24 hours, Hemant signed around 107 movies, however, things didn’t go as he planned. As he had good looks and a body, several popular actors didn’t work with him due to insecurity.

However, his happiness remained short-lived. In those days, there were very few heroes with such personality and good looks and this was the reason why he was also disregarded from appearing in many films.

It was Govinda and Dharmendra’s film ‘Kaun Kare Kurbanie’, when Hemant realised that it is going to be difficult for other stars to work with him as he shared an incident during the shooting of this film, “When I reached the set of this film on the first day, Dharmendra ji saw me. As soon as he saw me, he called director Arjun Hingorani and said in Punjabi, ‘O Arjun, come here. What kind of a hero have you brought…’ His height, personality, and looks are all good. I will not speak dialogues with him.” Arjun had reminded Dharmendra the support Hemant got in past and asked to give a chance to him.

In Hemant’s old interview, he expressed his admiration for superstar Mithun Chakraborty. He and Mithun has worked in around 20 films as a side actor. Despite facing such challenges, Hemant’s passion for acting remained undeterred. He worked in several projects such as Salman Khan’s Garv.

Hemant also expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan, sharing that he had approached SRK with the idea of working together, and Shah Rukh had shown interest back.

Govinda had once said for Hemant that he was a scoundrel. “He was a scoundrel. He was also adamant on the set, he would not push me. It continued like this”, the actor quoted.

Hemant Birje, on the professional front, is still an active actor. He was last seen in Marathi film Surya also featuring Prasad Mangesh, Ruchita Jadhav and Akhilendra Mishra.
