Azerbaijan should take measures for efficient usage of its water resources

“Water scarcity due to the effects of climate change is increasing in Azerbaijan,” Country Manager for the World Bank in Azerbaijan Stefanie Stallmeister said during the presentation of the report Transitioning to Efficient Water Sector Institutions and Programs for Addressing Water Security Challenges, APA-Economics reports.

“The situation is further complicated by the fact that approximately 70% of Azerbaijan’s water resources are transboundary, meaning that the country’s water supply depends on other countries,” she added.

The Country Manager emphasized taking these into account, the Azerbaijani government should take measures to ensure the efficient use of its limited water resources: “One of the most crucial steps in this direction is improving institutional organization.”
