Oceania Athletics is pleased to announce the Nuku’alofa, Tonga will be the host of the Major Oceania Athletics event in 2025. The competition will begin on October 29th and run until 1st November.

After being due to host the Oceania Polynesian Regional Championships before Covid hit, OAA are delighted to be bringing International Athletics back to the Kingdom of Tonga for the first time since 1998. Tonga has previously hosted the 1989 South Pacific Mini Games, and the 1998 Oceania U18 Athletics Championships at the newly resurfaced and renovated Teaufavia Stadium will once again host International Athletics.

Tonga has a history of Athletics and hosts exciting and vibrant annual Schools’ competitions for both primary and secondary school students.  Teams from all over the Kingdom, including the outer Islands, make their way to Nuku’alofa every year to compete in these events.

The Oceania Cup is not only an opportunity for the athletes, but the coaches and the technical officials to step up to the next level of competition.  Oceania Athletics looks forward to building on this rich tradition which is fast approaching the Centenary edition of Secondary School Athletics in Tonga.

OAA president Robin Sapong, commented “that the re-introduction of the Oceania Cup in 2023, has provided a wonderful opportunity for Oceania Athletics to align a competition to the World Plan and OAA Strategic Plan. With only the best athletes being selected in each region, the exciting format will thrill fans in Tonga over the two days of Competition. With The Oceania Athletics Masters Cup held alongside the Oceania Cup, this will be an opportunity for athletes of all ages, to get a taste of the wonderful hospitality that Tonga will provide. With Tonga was due to host the Polynesian Championships before Covid struck, so OAA is extremely excited to head to the Kingdom in 2025.
