Fair Trade Founder Departs, Target Names CFO

Macy’s

Department store retailer Macy’s has named Jason Holzman as senior vice president of creative and production. Holzman will oversee the creative (design and copy) as well as the photo studio and marketing operations teams. Designed to drive new, effective, breakthrough campaigns and ensure more integrated ways of storytelling across all channels, this role will advance how Macy’s engages with customers and the public. Holzman will report to Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer. Holzman was most recently at NBCUniversal, where he was senior vice president and head of creative for Peacock.

Target

American retail corporation Target announced that Jim Lee has been named chief financial officer and a member of its leadership team. In this new role, Lee will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, finance capabilities, internal audit, accounting, investor relations, treasury, tax, risk, financial products and services as well as corporate development. He succeeds Michael Fiddelke, Target’s chief operating officer who served as the retailer’s CFO since 2019 and will continue serving as COO.

Lee brings more than 25 years of experience in finance, strategy, team and culture leadership at PepsiCo. Most recently serving as the company’s deputy chief financial officer, he oversaw its global tax, treasury, investor relations and environmental, social and governance reporting functions, leading the finance teams for PepsiCo’s international business.  

Amazon

Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s senior vice president for emerging markets, announced in an internal email that Samir Kumar will take on the responsibility of leading India as its country manager, in addition to his current charter of leading Amazon’s consumer businesses in the Middle East, South Africa and Turkey. Samir, who joined Amazon in 1999, was a part of the original team that planned and launched Amazon.in in 2013. He succeeds Manish Tiwary, who has decided to explore an opportunity outside of Amazon.

Medical apparel company Jaanuu appointed Ian Scherber as its vice president of business development. In his new role, Scherber will focus on launching Jaanuu’s products in new and existing sales channels to broaden the brand’s reach in wholesale spaces. Scherber comes with a rounded perspective of the printing and decoration industry, having traveled to more than 80 print shops worldwide, understanding the industry and the existing gaps.

Nonprofit Fair Trade USA’s founder, Paul Rice, is stepping down as chief executive officer after 26 years. Rice and Fair Trade USA’s board of directors named chief operating officer Felipe Arango as interim CEO while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement.  Rice will finish 2024 as the founder to ensure a smooth transition and will remain with Fair Trade USA as a member of its advisory council in 2025. Arango has spent over 20 years advancing the Fair Trade and sustainability movements. He has served as COO since 2023 and has held positions leading sustainable development in coffee, cocoa, produce, textiles and floral.
