USAID sensitises Adamawa officials to financial instructions, due process

The Adamawa government has trained finance and account officers on Financial Instructions (FIs), to promote transparency and accountability in governance.

The three-day training exercise is being conducted with support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) State2State project.

The Project Team Lead, Suzanne Myada, stated this at the inauguration of the exercise on Saturday in Yola.

She said the exercise would expose the participants to Public Financial Management (PFM), to encouurage prudent public finances.

“FIs are a set of financial rules or guidelines put together to direct or guide public officers and institutions on their responsibilities, powers, and financial authorities in dealing with issues of Public Financial Management (PFM),” she said.

Myada enjoined the participants to engage actively in the exercise and use the skills learnt to enhance effective service delivery.

Mr Allahdon Kenan, the Project Specialist, said the exercise would build the capacity of public financial managers on issues of PFM in the state.

A resource person, Ismail Adeleye, hilighted the importance of record keeping and personnel capacity development in ensuring prudent public financial management.

“You have to be professional in your conduct otherwise you will be expose one day. Record keeping might serve as an evidence in a court of law in case of any challenge,” he said.

According to him, due process is key to successful service delivery hence the need for public financial officers to be serious.

Also speaking, Mr Hassan Modibbo, Permanent Secretary, Adamawa Planning Commission, lauded USAID for its contributions towards promoting good governance in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that accountants, auditors and administrators from the office of the srate’s Auditor General and Accountant General, State House of Assembly, ministries of Finance and Budget attended the exercise. (NAN)
