Former Indiana women’s soccer midfielder Sydney Masur signs contract overseas

Former Indiana women’s soccer midfielder Sydney Masur has signed her first professional contract with Fortuna Hjørring in Hjørring, Denmark, and will join the Danish women’s soccer in the Elitedivisionen this 2025 season.

“Playing at the highest level of college soccer has been an incredible experience, and I know I wouldn’t have this opportunity to play professionally without IU,” Masur said in an Indiana Athletics release Monday.

In Masur’s four seasons with the Hoosiers, she played in 56 games, leading Indiana to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Throughout her tenure, she racked up three goals and three assists and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. In her junior and senior years, she earned College Sport Communicators Academic All-District recognition and was named to the Fall Academic All-Big Ten Teams.

Along with her skills on the field, Indiana interim head coach Tim Verschuren praised Masur for her leadership.

“She always put the team first and inspired her teammates with her positive attitude,” Verschuren said. “I am confident that her leadership qualities will make her a valuable asset to her new team.”

In the Elitedivisionen women’s league, Fortuna has shown lots of recent success, making the Danish Cup Final just last year. It’s currently the top-seeded team and has played 14 matches so far, winning 11 of them. Masur will be joining the team mid-season later this month. Fortuna will face off in the Danish Cup quarter final against HB Køge on March 8.
