The Ecos Latinos Series is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of community concerts featuring Louisiana musicians at venues throughout New Orleans. The performances highlight the region’s diverse Latino musical traditions, from Brazilian choro and Latin pop to salsa and Afro-Caribbean rhythms.

On Friday, October 9, Guatemalan-born New Orleans musicians Julio and Cesar Herrera perform at 1:30 p.m. at the French Market, across from 19 French Market Place. The brothers combine salsa, jazz and Afro-Caribbean rhythms with the sounds of New Orleans.

The series also features Venezuelan guitarist and composer Manuel Arteaga, known locally as Manny, performing every Saturday through October 26 at 1 p.m. at the French Market. Arteaga, who has lived in New Orleans since 2010, draws on Latin American salsa, popular ballads and the city’s diverse musical influences.

Founded in 1993 by Carlos Valladares and Patrice Fisher, the Ecos Latinos Series presents Latino arts and culture in a family-friendly setting while supporting original works by Louisiana composers.

Additional community concerts continue throughout October, featuring artists including Margie Perez, Geovane Santos and Orkestra Fumaca, Bruno Elisabetsky, Papo y Son Mandao, Patrice Fisher and Arpa, and the Imox Latin Jazz Group from Guatemala.
