Anthropic wants to use more than just written conversations to continue perfecting its artificial intelligence systems. Now, the novelty appears when using Claude’s voice functions through a new prompt, Anthropic directly asks the user if they want to participate in this process: “Allow us to use your voice data to improve our AI models.”
Anthropic wants voice recordings and conversations
The request affects both the audio and the information associated with the conversations held through this modality.
The goal, according to the company, is to improve the ability of its systems to understand spoken language and respond appropriately to instructions made via voice.
“Audio recordings and voice chat data help improve how Anthropic’s AI models understand and respond to speech. Disable this or delete these data at any time in settings,” the company explains in the message shown to users.
The decision is in the hands of each person. In the notice, one can accept or reject the use of those data.
And something especially striking, at least from a privacy standpoint, in the interface where this function has been detected, the authorization appears deactivated by default.
Or in other words: the user must give their consent for their recordings to be incorporated into the process of improving the models.
A specific control within the privacy settings
Anthropic has also incorporated a dedicated switch for this function within Claude’s privacy section.
The option allows authorizing that, in those sessions that meet the corresponding conditions, audio recordings and data generated through voice chat can be used to perfect the company’s artificial intelligence models.
However, this permission can be withdrawn later from the settings themselves. Users can delete voice data if after authorizing its use they change their minds.
Voice is managed independently of written chats
Another particularity of the system is that Anthropic has separated this consent from what it already uses for other types of information.
The authorization to share voice data operates independently of the configuration related to text conversations and programming sessions conducted through Claude Code.
In practice, a person can allow their voice conversations to be used to improve the models while keeping their written chats excluded.
They can also do exactly the opposite: share certain text conversations for training and keep the use of recordings deactivated.
A separation that offers a certain degree of control over what information Anthropic can use, preventing acceptance of one modality from necessarily authorizing all others.
Data becomes a key piece to improve AI
The major developers of artificial intelligence are expanding the ways of interaction with their assistants.
Text is no longer the only means of communication, and voice is gaining prominence as an alternative to maintain more natural conversations with these systems.
To train these capabilities, it is not enough for a model to process written words. Spoken language incorporates pronunciations, rhythms, pauses, accents, and numerous variations that complicate automatic understanding.
