Karan Kundrra, actor and television presenter, has lost a whopping 12 kilograms in just a month. The 40-year-old, a known advocate for fitness, is a self-proclaimed true-blue Punjabi foodie who undoubtedly knows how to balance his love for food with a disciplined lifestyle through fitness.

Talking about his fitness journey, Karan revealed that he did not indulge in any fad diets or take shortcuts but maintained strict discipline on his meals, which included the timings.

How did Karan lose 12 kilos?

In an interview, Karan said he only eats home-cooked meals – including ingredients like ghee, which is loaded with most macro- and micronutrients that your body needs. “I simply went back to the basics; I ate ghee, something that’s been part of my life since childhood, and I practiced fasting,” he said in an interview with The Pune Media.

According to experts, ghee supports quick weight loss when consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet and exercise plan – mostly due to its high content of conjugated linoleic acid or CLA, which helps reduce fat accumulation, and medium-chain fatty acids, which can be metabolised for energy.

Ghee suppresses hunger, aids digestion, and also controls blood sugar spikes – thereby contributing immensely to weight loss and management. However, since it is a calorie-dense food, experts advise that too much consumption can lead to weight gain as well.

Karan follows intermittent fasting

For Karan, crash diets and removing certain items from your daily meals and following Western dietary concepts is a strict no. “Our genetics and lifestyle are very different from Western or Mediterranean cultures. I returned to my roots, and it worked for me,” he added.

Karan said weight loss was not just a physical transformation for him but also changed his outlook towards life. “It changes your entire being, your energy, your personality, even the way you see life. At the end of the day, nothing lasts forever, not fame, not money, not success. What truly remains is health,” said Karan.

Karan also followed the concept of intermittent fasting, which helped keep his cravings at bay. Intermittent fasting is a pattern of eating based on time limits. For a set time of hours or days, you eat a typical diet. At the end of the set time, you switch to very few or no calories, called fasting. When practiced for health benefits, intermittent fasting can be done in different ways.

There are many plans that you can follow when doing intermittent fasting, but always make sure to check with your doctor first before starting. Once you get their go-ahead, the actual practice is simple. You can pick a daily approach, which restricts daily eating to one six- to eight-hour period each day. For instance, you may choose to try 16/8 fasting: eating for eight hours and fasting for 16.
