Anand Mahindra, chosen by PM Modi to spread awareness against obesity, suggests a small change in your diet

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has emphasized the need for a healthier population to achieve India’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. His statement came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent initiative aimed at combating obesity and promoting mindful consumption of edible oil.As part of this movement, PM Modi nominated 10 notable personalities, including Anand Mahindra, actor R. Madhavan, and sportsperson Manu Bhaker and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, urging them to spread awareness about reducing oil consumption in food. He encouraged them to nominate 10 more individuals each to expand the reach of this campaign.

Mahindra, taking to social media platform X, reiterated the importance of small lifestyle changes for long-term well-being. He highlighted that cutting down even 10% of cooking oil could have significant benefits, not just for individual health but also for financial savings and environmental sustainability. Responding to the Prime Minister’s call, Mahindra nominated 10 others, including Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, and Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, urging them to continue the chain of awareness.

Nilekani, also reacting to his nomination, expressed gratitude for the initiative. He underscored the economic impact of reduced oil consumption, noting that it would lower India’s dependence on imports and preserve valuable resources. Beyond dietary modifications, he shared his personal commitment to maintaining fitness through regular exercise, reinforcing the campaign’s broader message of leading a balanced and active lifestyle.

Rajya Sabha MP and philanthropist Sudha Murty, another nominee, also played her part in carrying forward the movement. She selected Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Indian Olympic Association head P.T. Usha, both influential figures in their respective fields, to continue spreading awareness about obesity prevention and healthy eating habits.The Prime Minister has repeatedly urged citizens to adopt healthier eating patterns, emphasizing that excessive oil consumption not only affects personal health but also has broader implications for families and society.By involving business leaders, sports personalities, and celebrities, the campaign aims to create a ripple effect, encouraging millions to rethink their daily food consumption. The goal is to foster a cultural shift where mindful eating becomes a norm rather than an afterthought.
