For many cancer survivors, losing hair is more than a side effect; it’s a visible reminder of the hardest chapter of their lives. On October 22 in Sandton, global hair restoration brand Alvi Armani South Africa and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) announced a partnership aimed at giving survivors back their confidence… One strand at a time.

Through the initiative, survivors, who are at least six months post-treatment, will receive specialised consultations, hair analysis, and selected restoration treatments at no cost. The goal is simple: To make world-class restoration care accessible to those who have endured the emotional and physical toll of cancer.

Dr Kashmal Kalan, medical director at Alvi Armani South Africa, said: “Hair restoration isn’t just about vanity; it’s about restoring a sense of identity. Healing should end with wholeness, not just survival.”

For survivors, like Cebisa Mfenyana, who lost her hair during chemotherapy, the partnership offers more than treatment; it offers emotional recovery. “When my hair fell out, it felt worse than the cancer diagnosis. Looking in the mirror made it real. This initiative gives survivors like me a chance to feel ourselves again.”

The collaboration also includes ongoing research, support, and training to bring cutting-edge solutions, like eyebrow and eyelash restoration, to South Africa.

CANSA CEO Elize Joubert called the partnership a symbol of renewal. “This is more than financial relief; it’s about dignity, identity, and giving survivors the confidence to live fully again.”
