Musician Nicole Taylor, who performed with her identical triplet sisters in the country trio Taylor Red, died Sept. 28. She was 35.

Taylor’s death was announced Monday by her sisters, Natalie and Nika Taylor, who addressed the news in an emotional video shared to Taylor Red’s official social media accounts.

In the clip, the siblings noted that Nicole Taylor had been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2022. Though she responded well to her treatments at first, the cancer progressed to Stage 4, they said.

“She tried not to live in fear, remained really hopeful, traveled. She tried to live life,” Natalie Taylor said. “She worked really hard. She tried to have fun.”

Nika Taylor added: “We are still shocked and didn’t think this would happen, but we know she’s not suffering anymore and we have God’s promise of ultimate healing.”

The pair also shared a brief statement on their sister’s passing on Taylor Red’s website, noting: “She was our leader and our best friend. We are heartbroken, but we know she is in Heaven and will see her again.”

The Taylor sisters, who hailed from Mississippi, rose to prominence as a musical trio ― then known as Red Roots ― in 2011, shortly after the release of their debut album the previous year.

Two additional albums ― 2012’s “The Middle of Nowhere” and 2014’s “Triplicity” ― followed, and in 2018, the band officially changed its name to Taylor Red and moved to Nashville, Tennessee.

Three years after relocating to Nashville, Taylor Red unveiled their signature song, “Country Money,” which drew comparisons to hits by The Chicks and The Judds.

The song quickly went viral on TikTok, and its success roughly coincided with the Taylor sisters being cast in a multi-commercial ad campaign for Sonic Drive-In. The band went on to tour with Charlie Daniels, Amy Grant and Josh Turner, among other Nashville-based performers, as an opening act.

“TikTok has the ability to launch music unlike any other social media platform out there,” Nicole Taylor told People in a 2021 interview. “It gives everyone a chance.”

“We had one of our Taylor Red Army members tattoo our username on their arm,” she continued. “A few others plan to get our tagline, ‘You have what it takes, you have a purpose, you are one of a kind’ on their arms. When you hear stories like that, you realize that this is serious. This is real. And really, it’s because of them. They are the reason we are here.”
