The cybersecurity emergency will be the focus of the National Committee for Public Order and Security, convened by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, for Tuesday at the Interior Ministry. Piantedosi will ask the heads of the intelligence services and the Postal Police for a detailed analysis of the risks to public security associated with cyberattacks and the cyber threat.

The week ending today, marked by a long string of cyberattacks on businesses and infrastructure, repeated bomb scares involving Italian flights and airports, and the publication on the dark web of sensitive data (accompanied by a ransom demand in cryptocurrency) relating to 18 individuals deemed enemies of Russia (including Foreign Minister Tajani, Rome’s Public Prosecutor Lo Voi, and the Director of the Postal Police, Gabrielli), have confirmed that Italy is not only one of the countries in the crosshairs but also one of the most vulnerable due to the fragility of its structures and defences in terms of cybersecurity. According to the latest Clusit 2026 report, almost 10 per cent of cybersecurity incidents recorded worldwide took place in Italy, representing a year-on-year increase of 42 per cent.
