Meet 70-Year-Old ‘Weight Lifter Mummy’ Who Went Viral For Her Veg Protein Diet & Age-Defying Fitness

For most people, turning 70 means slowing down. For Roshni Devi Sangwan, it meant picking up a barbell and not putting it down. Known to her Instagram followers as Weight Lifter Mummy, this inspiring grandmother only began her gym journey at 68. Today, she can deadlift almost 100 kg, squat 50 kg, and hold a plank for four minutes, feats that put even younger fitness enthusiasts to the test.

Roshni’s fitness journey

Her transformation began unexpectedly. In 2011, after losing her husband, Roshni moved to Delhi to live with her son, Ajay. Years later, knee pain began interfering with her daily life. Instead of giving in, she decided to fight back with strength training.

“There’s no fixed age or time for anything. If you want to do something, don’t think, ‘I’m too old now, it won’t happen’,” she stated on Ranveer Allahabadia’s podcast.

The gym, however, wasn’t love at first sight. “In the beginning, yes, it’s a bit difficult… You think, ‘Will I break a bone?’ But if you fill your mind with the thought, ‘I can do it,’ then it will happen,” she recalled. That mental shift proved to be her greatest muscle.

Look into her vegetarian diet

Her fitness routine is paired with a simple, vegetarian, protein-rich diet. Mornings start with oats blended with almonds, raisins, and water. Evenings feature a moong dal chilla stuffed with paneer, green chillies, a slice of mango, and a glass of milk. “This is what I eat, nothing more,” she said.

To her thousands of online followers, Roshni’s story is more than a fitness journey; it’s proof that self-belief and consistency can change your life at any age. Her advice is as straightforward as her workout: start small, stay consistent, and give yourself just 30 minutes a day.

After all, if Weight Lifter Mummy can lift nearly 100 kilos at 70, what’s stopping you from lifting yourself off the couch?
