South Korean automotive components manufacturer, Hyundai Mobis Company, announced it has opened a new integrated research and development (R&D) centre in India, designed to help it meet growing demand for its services from the local operations of its parent company Hyundai Motor Group (HMG).

Hyundai Mobis is HMG’s main component manufacturing subsidiary, developing and producing advanced chassis and powertrain modules and systems for South Korea’s largest automaker. It has also been central to the automaker’s drive towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

Hyundai Mobis confirmed it has combined its two existing R&D centres in the Indian city of Hyderabad into a larger, single integrated facility, allowing it to expand the range of mobility projects it can undertake for its parent company.  The move also strengthens the facility’s role as a key global automotive software development centre for the group, helping it meet rising local demand for automotive software solutions.

Lee Jong-keun, head of Hyundai Mobis Technical Center of India, said in a statement: “Based on our nearly 20 years of experience in developing mobility solutions for production vehicles, we will promote the advancement of software and contribute to improving product competitiveness.”

As well as its main R&D centre in South Korea, Hyundai Mobis also has R&D facilities in China, Europe and in the US.
