Nominees announced for 14th annual Country Music Alberta Awards

Greg Williamson, Hailey Benedict, Brett Kissel, Dan Davidson and Aaron Goodvin represent the best of St. Albert

The stage is set and nominees were announced for the 14th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards taking place March 2 at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary. 

The much-anticipated music celebration highlights the best and brightest stars of Alberta’s country music scene, ranging from consistent chart toppers to the next generation of raw talent. 

Returning to host the ceremonies is Ashley Callingbull, Miss Universe Canada 2024, who brings a certain prairie elegance to her role. 

Some of the key nominees are Noeline Hofmann, Nice Horse, Kyle McKearney and Drew Gregory, each with five nominations. 

This year’s St. Albert nominees form a small, but diverse group of musicians. Greg Williamson once again received a nod for Drummer of the Year. This category selects nominees for their entire year’s body of work. 

Williamson launched his professional career 20 plus years ago with Tupelo Honey and played with numerous celebrated acts such Bon Jovi, Theory of a Deadman, The Trews, Billy Talent and Sam Roberts. Currently, he does session work at home and abroad, playing many musical styles. 

Hailey Benedict was nominated for the prestigious Single of the Year. Her single, Things My Mama Says, is a tribute to her mother and the deep bond they share. Benedict now splits her time between Nashville and St. Albert. 

Brett Kissel, who thinks of St. Albert as an old stomping ground after having lived here for a year, is also competing in the Single of the Year category with Let Your Horses Run. In addition, he has a second nomination as the Male Artist of the Year alongside Aaron Goodvin and Dan Davidson. 

Goodvin is also performing at the gala evening with notables such as Hall of Fame inductee Danny Hooper, Gord Bamford and Noeline Hofmann.
