Real Madrid aren’t exactly a thrilling watch under Xabi Alonso, but as they brushed Juventus aside by a 1-0 score at home to boast a perfect Champions League record through three matches, the new Blancos boss won’t care.
Jude Bellingham’s goal shortly after the second-half restart did the trick, turning in a rebounded ball from close range after Vinicius Jr. had struck the post.
The La Liga giants posed little other threat, but in Alonso’s system which prioritises control above overwhelming attacking threat, the result is a job well done for the Madrid manager.
Juventus had moments of their own, but failed to capitalise on any of their opportunities, with Thibaut Courtois presenting a strong adversary in goal. Dusan Vlahovic had the biggest chance for the Italians, but he was turned away by a wonderful Courtois save eight minutes before Madrid took the lead.
The victory sees Madrid join the other European giants atop the Champions League standings, with PSG, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Arsenal amongst those who have secured three wins from three to begin the European campaign.
Real Madrid now turn their sights to El Clasico coming up on Sunday, while Juventus manager Igor Tudor will have another adverse result to explain as Juve see their winless run extended to six games.

Real Madrid vs. Juventus live updates, highlights from Champions League
FULLTIME: Real Madrid 1-0 Juventus
The full-time whistle blows to end five minutes of added time, and Real Madrid remain perfect in Champions League play!
Jude Bellingham’s first goal of the season is enough to make the difference, and Los Blancos will happily grab their three points from the match!
88th min: It wouldn’t be a Real Madrid match without an injury to a defender, as Raul Asencio comes off with a fitness issue. He’s replaced by Gonzalo Garcia.
82nd min: With Madrid starting to close up shop, Juventus have shown little ability to provide a threat to equalise the game. The visitors have had more of the ball, but to little effect.
Pierre Kalulu gets on the ball in space inside the right edge of the penalty area, but is closed down before he can deliver a feed and his eventual cross is blocked.
Xabi Alonso makes a defensive swap as Vinicius Jr. comes off for Fran Garcia, while Franco Mastantuono replaces Brahim Diaz.
72nd min: Chance, Real Madrid! CLEARED OFF THE LINE! Brahim Diaz romps into a shooting position from 14 yards out, and while his effort beats Di Gregorio who’s caught cheating to his near post, Federico Gatti is standing on the line to block the effort away!
Shortly after, Arda Guler is replaced by Eduardo Camavinga in midfield, as the Real Madrid star is applauded off the pitch by the home crowd after yet another strong performance.
71st min: Chance, Real Madrid! A STUNNING SAVE BY DI GREGORIO! Kylian Mbappe rips an absolute piledriver on the Juventus net from a position 18 yards away on the right, but the Italian goalkeeper reacts quickly and decisively to parry the effort! What a stop!
61st min: Brahim Diaz is the first player booked in this match as he catches Khephren Thuram late in midfield.
Thuram is ok, but he is immediately replaced by Francisco Conceicao who was preparing to enter as a substitute before the foul occurred.
57th min: GOAL! REAL MADRID! JUDE BELLINGHAM HAS PUT REAL MADRID IN FRONT!
Los Blancos have been second-best this half, but they deposit their first true look on goal! Vinicius Jr. fires an incisive shot from the left side of the penalty area which beats the goalkeeper but strikes the woodwork square on, and it’s Bellingham who pounces to bury the opportunity off the rebound!
The goal is the first for Bellingham this season after returning from a shoulder injury, and his first in the Champions League since February 11 in the first leg of their knockout playoff round against Man City!

VIDEO: Watch Jude Bellingham goal in UK | Watch in Canada
56th min: Chance, Juventus! Another big save from Thibaut Courtois sees the Real Madrid goalkeeper stop a shot from Andrea Cambiasso from a central position atop the penalty area! The Belgian has had a big game!
49th min: Chance, Juventus! THIBAUT COURTOIS MAKES A HUGE SAVE! A stroke of luck sees the ball fall into the path of Dusan Vlahovic clean through on goal, but his effort with only the goalkeeper to beat is stopped by Courtois’s foot as the Belgian makes himself big and deflects the chance!
2nd half kickoff: No changes to either side as the second half begins.
Xabi Alonso will surely have remonstrated for more energy from his side during the halftime break, can they up the tempo and earn a lead to back their possessional dominance?
HALFTIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Juventus
A woefully bland first 45 minutes mercifully comes to an end as the referee blows the halftime whistle with the scoreline unblemished.
Real Madrid controlled much of the possession across the first half, holding a whopping 70% of the ball, but have done little with it as they have failed to break down Juve’s structure save for a few half-chances to end the half.
Juventus, for their part, looked lively early on but have largely faded as the half wore on, forced to defend in droves and unable to get out of their own half. The Italian side has defended heroically to this stage, but Igor Tudor’s side will need more of an outlet if they are to keep up the fight across the full 90 minutes.
43rd min: Chance, Real Madrid! Kylian Mbappe absolutely smokes Andrea Cambiasso on the wing before pulling it back for Eder Militao at the top of the penalty area, but the Brazilian defender blazes a powerful effort over the crossbar!
40th min: Chance, Real Madrid! Michele Di Gregorio is finally tested by Real Madrid, and he is up to the task as he stonewalls Kylian Mbappe from a tight angle!
Very strong work by Brahim Diaz sees the Madrid winger hold off a challenge from Lloyd Kelly at the top of the penalty area, and he feeds it to Mbappe to his left who gets through on goal. The Frenchman has a go first-time, but Di Gregorio had read the play, coming off his line to smother the shot! Great goalkeeping!
37th min: The first half of this match has been drab, as Real Madrid have been unable to break down a stout Juventus shape, while the Italians haven’t had much on the counter since the opening stages. An effort by Arda Guler from distance is held easily by Michele Di Gregorio who slides over to collect.
25th min: Having built themselves into a strong position, Real Madrid are looking the better side now as they turn up the heat on the Juventus back line. It has not resulted in a major goal scoring chance of yet, but they have ripped off six shots in the last 10 minutes.
An effort from Brahim Diaz from the right which is saved by Michele Di Gregorio for a corner, and the ensuing set-piece sees two more Madrid efforts blocked. The momentum is shifting…
14th min: Chance, Juventus! Another central shot from distance by the Italians, this time from Federico Gatti, and another diving save by Thibaut Courtois! Again, it’s a bit elementary for the Real Madrid goalkeeper, but testing nonetheless!
Real Madrid have started very slow on both ends of the pitch.
10th min: Chance, Juventus! A shot from deep by Weston McKennie is saved by a diving Thibaut Courtois! It forced the Real Madrid goalkeeper to leave his feet, but was too central in the end to be a real threat. Still, Juventus have been more dangerous than Madrid, despite the hosts having the majority of possession!
7th min: Juventus look a threat on the counter, as Pierre Kalulu runs an incisive transitional move down the right, and his cross to the middle is dangerous but Thibaut Courtois does just enough to prevent it reaching Dusan Vlahovic, albeit awkwardly.
3rd min: Real Madrid are in control of the early possessional phase, and it appears that Arda Guler, not Jude Bellingham, is the one to drop deeper in midfield to make room for the other. We’ll see how much those two interchange during the match, as there could be plenty of fluidity in the XI from Xabi Alonso.
Kickoff: They’re under way at the glitzy Santiago Bernabeu! Will Real Madrid join the unblemished teams at the top of the Champions League standings, or will Juventus put their winless run to bed in emphatic fashion?
Real Madrid vs. Juventus: Pre-match commentary, analysis, more
15 mins to kickoff: Kylian Mbappe thrived in his first season at Real Madrid, but at the expense of the rest of his squad.
Now under Xabi Alonso, the Frenchman has continued his electric form but in the context of team success. Mbappe leads all Champions League goal scorers with five through the first two matches, while Real Madrid have conceded just one on the other end.
Kickoff is just around the corner!

30 mins to kickoff: A perfect illustration of the current state of Juventus is the decision to hand 20-year-old Kenan Yildiz the captain’s armband tonight against Real Madrid, his first time ever captaining the side.
Taking nothing away from Yildiz, who has been a positive injection of life to this Juventus attack, the fact there is no veteran presence in this squad with the leadership skills to captain the side is a condemnation of how Juventus have operated the last few years. Their recruitment has left them without any more experienced club icons to lean on during spells of poor form.
Can they turn around the losing streak tonight, or will Igor Tudor find himself in further disarray?

45 mins to kickoff: There are few surprises in the Juventus lineup from under-pressure manager Igor Tudor tonight. The most interesting tweak is up front, where Dusan Vlahovic comes in to replace Jonathan David after the latter fired a blank over the weekend against Como.
USMNT star Weston McKennie, who excelled in the 3-4-3 used by Mauricio Pochettino over the international break, is in the XI in his more natural central midfield position, having deputised at wing-back multiple times this season.
McKennie credits Tudor for his offseason fitness programme which has seen him become noticeably slimmer and more muscular.
“Mister #Tudor told me: ‘You’re getting older, your body won’t recover from matches the way it used to. You need to lose some weight. That’s the only way you’ll be involved.’
I kept my head down, worked as usual, went on a diet, and started training more often.”Weston #McKennie pic.twitter.com/BBqhVMMLKm

1 hour to kickoff: The Real Madrid lineup is in, and there are some interesting tweaks from Xabi Alonso.
To keep Arda Guler in the No. 10 position he has thrived in so far, Jude Bellingham is moved deeper in midfield, bumping Eduardo Camavinga out of the XI. There is also a change on the wing, with Brahim Diaz entering for Franco Mastantuono.

1 hour 15 mins to kick: While everyone reminisces about the last time these two teams met in the Champions League, the most recent meeting between these two sides in any competition came just this past summer in the Club World Cup.
In that game, young Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Los Blancos, en route to winning the competition’s Golden Boot award. That hasn’t led to much more playing time for the 21-year-old this season, however, as he has logged just 105 minutes since the 2025/26 campaign began, including just 10 in the Champions League so far.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: According to a report by The Athletic, the 2018 comeback by Juventus in the Champions League quarterfinal was the moment Cristiano Ronaldo was convinced he wanted to play for the Italian club the following season.
However, that same report states that Juve are still paying for signing Ronaldo — literally — as they still have a €14 million line item on their books related to Ronaldo’s signing, and there’s an ongoing court case as well to resolve what the superstar claims to be unpaid wages.
1 hour 45 mins to kick: The last time these clubs faced off in the Champions League, Juventus very nearly pulled off a sensational comeback from down 3-0 in the first leg. They would go on to lose thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo on a decision by Michael Oliver which sent Gianluigi Buffon into outer space.

2 hours to kickoff: Xabi Alonso seems to have already solved the issue plaguing the Real Madrid attack upon his arrival, but there is another tactical question to answer now that he has a more fit midfield to select from.
With Jude Bellingham back in the side, the Real Madrid boss has to figure out what to do with Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono, who were both in good form during Bellingham’s early-season absence. Guler flourished in the No. 10 role while Bellingham was out, and sticking him out wide at the expense of Mastantuono feels like borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.
How will he manage to fit the pieces together today?
Franco Mastantuono has only been on the bench for 3 of 10 Real Madrid games this season.
There’s an ongoing competition he’s having with Bellingham and Guler for a role in the starting XI.

Real Madrid vs. Juventus lineups, team news
Alonso’s injury problems in defence are still a few weeks away from easing with four key defenders sidelined.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal are expected back to full fitness by the end of the month but Antonio Rudiger is out until mid-December.
Federico Valverde continues at right-back, but David Alaba is unlikely to start two games back-to-back, so Raul Asencio should partner Eder Militao.
Alonso spoke glowingly of Arda Guler in the build-up, and he starts at the No. 10 position he has blossomed in during the absence of Jude Bellingham to begin the season. Bellingham is moved deeper in midfield, with Eduardo Camavinga dropped. Interestingly, Brahim Diaz comes into the XI in place of young Franco Mastantuono who has garnered praise for his impressive performances so far.
Real Madrid starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Courtois (GK) — Valverde, Militao, Asencio, Carreras — Bellingham, Tchouameni — B. Diaz, Guler, Vinicius Junior — Mbappe.
Real Madrid subs: Lunin (GK), F. Gonzalez (GK), Mendy, F. Garcia, Thiago Pitarch, Camavinga, Mastantuono, Rodrygo, G. Garcia, Endrick.
Igor Tudor did not flag up any fresh injury concerns after the loss at Como, but the Croatian is under real pressure based on Juventus’ poor form.
Federico Gatti rotates into the visitors defence. USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie comes into the lineup, while fellow CONCACAF star Jonathan David rotates out to the bench. The Canada striker is replaced at the No. 9 position by Dusan Vlahovic after firing a blank against Como over the weekend.
Oft-injured Brazil international Bremer remains out of action for the Turin giants, but Fabio Miretti returns from a fitness issue to make the bench.
Juventus starting lineup (3-4-3): Di Gregorio (GK) — Gatti, Rugani, Kelly — Kalulu, McKennie, Thuram-Ulien, Cambiaso — Yildiz, Vlahovic, Koopmeiners.
Juventus subs: Fuscaldo (GK), Perin (GK), Kostic, J. Mario, Locatelli, Adzic, Conceicao, Zhegrova, Miretti, Openda, David.
