Stereotypes around women in pageants are so outdated

I’ll get up at around 8am and the first thing I’ll do is some gratitude journaling. I’ll write out my intentions for the day, check my diary and make sure I’m on top of my schedule.

I started to do gratitude journaling about two months ago. I have travelled the world over the last year. Travelling the world has totally changed my outlook on things – I no longer take things for granted.

08.30

I’ll get up and have a coffee.

I’ll usually try to get a walk in and in good weather I might jump in the sea at Vico Baths. I used to be on the Irish Diving Team so I love to swim. I used to train six days a week. I’ve always liked to try things and to push myself to do the best I can in everything I do. My mam and dad really inspire me – they have such a great work ethic.

10.00

Often I’ll have photoshoots so I’ll head to work around 10am and could be in work till 6.30pm. It is quite tiring but I love doing it. I’ve done modelling since I was 17 years old but modelling has been put on the back burner at the moment as my main focus is pursuing my education. I’m sitting the New York bar exams in July – I want to go into human rights and become an attorney – so life is hectic.

I think the stereotypes around women who compete in pageants are so outdated. We take part in a Beauty with a Purpose project which is about the advocacy work we are doing. The women in this competition have degrees, masters degrees, often speak multiple languages… Some of them are policy makers, some have created new laws, some have created projects that have become international…

I have brought my own project to Zimbabwe, India and South Africa as well as Ireland. It’s called Dream in a Box – it’s a literacy kit based around reading, writing and storytelling.

I was the first person in my family ever to go to college, so education is very important to me. I wrote a book a couple of years ago, Sunny and the Safe Harbour, it’s about self love and affirmation and how every child deserves to feel safe. The kids read this book and then they will create their own story using the tools in the kit. The book came out of my work helping provide legal aid to women in domestic violence centres.

12.00

I am one of these intermittent fasting people – I won’t eat till 12pm or 1pm and then I’ll have eggs with avocado. I am trying to focus on having a healthy diet at the moment in order to be in the best condition mentally and physically for the competition. When you feel in good shape, and are mentally in a good place, it radiates.

16.00

If I don’t have a shoot day I’d go to Sweat Gym for Hyrox. I’m obsessed with Hyrox which I got into about two years ago. My personal trainer at the time suggested it – he is such an inspiring guy and really encouraged me to get into fitness.

I used to go to the gym a bit but when it comes to Hyrox I’m obsessed. My body has completely changed since I started doing it. If I’m feeling sluggish or awful I’ll try to go for a jog or do some exercise, it always helps me feel better.

18.00

I might visit my aunt and cousins or my nanny might cook for everyone in her house. I am very family oriented – my family means the world to me. I love kids and love hanging out with my cousins. I also love food – so the combination of family and food is perfect for me. My family is in the restaurant business (Rudy’s Restaurant and Maximilian’s Bistro in Blanchardstown, Dublin) and we have Italian roots so we love food. I love cooking. We might eat together in one of the
restaurants or we will go to my grandmother’s house.

20.00

I might go for another walk and meet up with some friends or I might have coaching calls. It’s all go, go, go at the moment. I am fully focused on bringing the best version of myself to Miss World and there’s a lot of training involved so that’s what I am focusing on. It’s a four week long experience with different challenges every day so it’s about mental training as well as physical training. If I wasn’t preparing for Miss World I would go to the cinema or to visit my cousins in Meath.

At the moment I’m reading Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. I’m finding it has more relevance to my life than I expected. I am trying to get a good bedtime beauty routine going. Biofresh skincare is an Irish brand that I love – they have some great organic products. I love to chill out and watch a movie before I get some sleep.
