Fans of The Apothecary Diaries are eating good this year and beyond. An original theatrical anime movie was announced, alongside a significant update for the upcoming Season 3.
Per Japan Anime News, The Apothecary Diaries anime TV series celebrated its second anniversary with two major announcements for the franchise. The first announcement was the Season 3 release window, or, in this case, release windows: Season 3 is being split into two parts, with part 1 airing in October 2026 and part 2 in April 2027. Additionally, an original theatrical anime movie based on The Apothecary Diaries is in development and is expected to be released in December 2026.
The Apothecary Diaries Surprises Fans with Season 3 Premiere Dates and Theatrical Film Adaptation
According to the second anniversary announcement trailer, The Apothecary Diaries theatrical anime movie will be an original story by series creator Natsu Hyuuga. Story details are light, but the teaser trailer showed the beautiful Maomao surrounded by flames as it revealed the exciting news. The upcoming anime movie being an original story is a surprising decision, as it bucks the current trend of adapting a popular manga story for film, such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle or Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 premiered on Oct. 22, 2023, and ran for 24 episodes. The Season 1 anime finale aired on March 24, 2024. Similarly, The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 aired for 24 episodes from Jan. 10, 2025, to July 4, 2025. During its Season 2 run, the anime suffered a one-week delay due to scheduling issues. As light as the problem was, the disappointing news was amplified by the sudden announcement of a one-month hiatus for the manga, due to the poor health of Nekokurage, the artist for The Apothecary Diaries. Nonetheless, both anime and manga resumed their scheduling on their intended release dates.
Recently, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End announced an indefinite hiatus due to the author’s poor health. The unfortunate update is yet another setback to the manga’s release schedule, as new chapters struggled to get out due to previous hiatuses. Additionally, the disappointing news comes as Frieren Season 2 is set to premiere on Jan. 16, 2026. 2026 is looking to be a packed year with highly anticipated anime premieres for The Apothecary Diaries, Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen and more. (Unfortunately for Solo Leveling fans, there’s still no official announcement for Season 3, let alone a release date.)
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 will premiere in October 2026, followed by its second half in April 2027. The Apothecary Diaries original theatrical anime movie, written by series author Natsu Hyuuga, is scheduled for a December 2026 release.
