Anyone who loves horror movies knows that it takes a lot to get fans talking on social media. We’ve been desensitized to so much in the genre that when something original comes along and starts making noise, that means it’s definitely time to pay attention. That’s the case with the new Tubi Original horror movie, Match, which has come out of nowhere to become a crowd-pleaser thanks to its unpredictability and bonkers premise.

Directed by the same person who brought us the Slumber Party Massacre remake in 2021, Danishka Esterhazy, Match was released on October 3, 2025. It recently caught fire thanks to a slew of social media users who can’t stop talking about the bizarre gem, and has grown exponentially in popularity ever since. You can read the brief synopsis below, which doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how truly nuts Match really is:

“After Paola is matched with a handsome online suitor, she arrives for a first date to discover a house full of dark and terrifying secrets.”

It sounds pretty tame, right? Like an unsuspecting little movie that doesn’t really have anything new to offer? That’s what they want you to think. Upon actually viewing Match, you’ll quickly see that it’s not like anything you ever would have expected, as it soon turns into one of the most unconventional horror movies you’ll ever watch. As one user on X put it, “Match is like Barbarian on crack.” Even critic Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror was blown away by what they witnessed:

“This Tubi horror movie is not for anyone with a weak stomach, as the practical effects hit hard and in so many different ways. Good Lord, I did not see this one coming, but it is definitely a horror movie you’ll want to watch.”

‘Match’ Is “Nasty, Intense, and Demented as Hell”

Starring the likes of Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia, The Waterfront), Shaeane Jimenez (Charles TM Charles), and Dianne Simpson (Legacy), Match is one of those movies you have to see to really believe. It’s got everything a horror fan could want in a film, and even some things they don’t. Remember all the buzz surrounding the giant penis in 28 Years Later? Yeah, Match takes that to a whole other level and then some.

That’s what makes Match so good, though. Not the giant penis, but the fact that you have no idea what you’re getting into when you sit down to watch it. It’s been called everything from “nasty, intense, and demented as hell,” to “unexpectedly creepy and disgusting… in a good way.” With reviews like that, how could you not want to check this one out? Horror fans are always on the lookout for the next big thing, and though Match won’t reach the heights of a mainstream studio film, it’s certainly won over the hearts of many for being something fresh and different.

We’ve purposely been vague as to what’s in this one, because we don’t want to spoil the fun. Match is one of those films that’s best experienced first hand without any type of spoilers. Heck, don’t even watch the trailer. Just sit down, head on over to Tubi, and thank us later.
