The movie, directed by Alejandro Montoya Marin and featuring actor Chelsea Rendon, is set to captivate audiences with its thrilling storyline. The two talents joined Trevor Scott and Sierra Waggoner in the studio to tell them more about this passion project.
Marin, a Texan filmmaker, shared insights about making the film in the Lone Star State and a special screening in Austin this week.
“I wanted to make a movie where the underdogs stand a chance. Especially nowadays, where everything is just so tough. A story where regular people can win. ‘The Unexpecteds’ is an action dramedy, starring some really talented people.”
Rendon is one of those talents and plays a key role in the film, which boasts a talented cast including Matt Walsh, Alejandro De Hoyos, Chelsea Rendon, and Francisco Ramos.
“It’s just about a group of friends who need each other. They became a family and got scammed, and then we’re all trying to figure out how we can get our money back, and that’s where some of the action comes in. But it was such a good time with such a good group of people.”
The duo also revealed their love for Torchy’s Tacos, a nod to their Texan roots.
“Oh, man. It’s one of my favorite taco places. When I was here in 2017 shooting a web series called ‘Rebel Without a Crew,’ one of the PAs was like, ‘Hey, you want anything for breakfast?’ I’m like, ‘just give me a taco or something.’ Well, there’s this place called Torchy’s, and from there on, the rest is history.”
