Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile is gearing up and looks like it is preparing to enter into the Indian automobile market. Though the company hasn’t made an official announcement yet, its recent actions have raised questions and sparked excitement among car enthusiasts. Chery has now patented the Arrizo 8 sedan in India, which is signaling towards the brand that it could be testing the markets before officially stepping into the country’s auto space.
For those new to the name, Chery Automobile is one of China’s largest car manufacturers, who are known globally for its stylish and feature-loaded cars that are offered at affordable prices. If this brand got launched in India, the Arrizo 8 could become a serious competitor to sedans of the Hyundai, Skoda and Honda, bringing a mix of luxury, features and performance at a competitive price tag.
The patent images reveal a design which is identical to the international model, showcasing Chery’s modern design philosophy. The car measures 4.7 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.4 meters in height, with a 2.7-meter wheelbase and has plenty of cabin space, as per the data available in the international market. On the outside, it gives a bold and elegant look with 18-inch alloy wheels and multiple color options as per international market, such as red, blue, silver, black, white, and green.
From the inside, the Arrizo 8’s cabin focuses on comfort and technology. The international version comes with a minimalist dual-tone interior which is highlighted by a massive 24.6-inch connected display, a wireless phone charger, a premium eight-speaker sound system, a 540-degree surround view camera and a panoramic sunroof. Looking at the safety front which is available in the international market, it includes 10 airbags and an advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite with 18 safety features, putting it among the most tech-loaded sedans in its class.
Under the hood, the Arrizo 8 offers two petrol engine choices internationally which are a 1.6-litre TGDi engine that produces 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre TGDi engine which makes 241 hp and 390 Nm of torque. Both are paired with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and front-wheel drive setup.
