Cosmicpup Studio has unveiled Ordinary Oddness, an open-world RPG built in Unreal Engine 5 that mixes a cozy city with supernatural weirdness and pop culture homages. The studio announced the game on October 21 with a Reveal Trailer and a Steam page that is now open for wishlisting.
A Cloud-Bound City Where Weird Is Normal
The game takes place in Elysian Skies, a metropolis above a sea of clouds. Cosmicpup bills it as a “Nothing-Stays-Oddinary” open-world RPG, with a “cozy-meets-weird” tone that hides deep historical secrets behind everyday life. Humans live and work alongside Mythoids, sentient beings in decidedly nonhuman forms, and the release describes scenes like an anthropomorphic Shiba Inu wooing a robot cat near the Grand Parade entrance.
The city has two layers. On the surface, players can explore the residential streets of Breezeway Lane, the neon commercial strips of Golden Fantasia, and the lawless Undercity below. Beneath it sit the Psycheidos Zones, surreal spaces where gravity flips, reality warps, and buried memories become physical mazes. The streets are packed with easter eggs and pop culture homages meant to reward players who read the environment.
Mythoids are entities born from leaking dimensional energy fused with objects, data streams, landmarks, and human subconsciousness. Some hold civic roles, like Mayor Yeahman, a talking Y-shaped loudspeaker who leads the city. Others turn dangerous, like Mythoid Candy Robot, a candy vending machine that serves as a boss fight.
Detective Agency And Squad Combat
Players take the role of a Consulting Investigator who builds and runs a Detective Agency. City Commissions earn the resources to expand the agency and unlock new combat skills, and routine casework leads to a larger mystery around Luminar, a key figure from the protagonist’s past. That thread pulls players deeper into the Psycheidos Zones and toward the Nightingale Theater conspiracy.
When cases turn hostile, the game becomes a fast ARPG built on team synergies. Players assemble recruits including M.I.A. Director Sia, mechanical genius Luka, and Moonkind warrior Byakko, then swap characters to chain elemental skills, trigger tag attacks, and take cover. Perfect Dodges, Block and Parry chains, and interrupting “yellow-flash” finishers all matter, and squad AI lets bosses such as an eight-puppet unit coordinate their attacks.
The Reveal Trailer is live on YouTube, and the Steam store page is open for wishlisting. The release does not give a launch date, price, or platforms.
