Through her Pies Descalzos Foundation, Colombian singer Shakira has begun promoting an initiative that seeks to expand women’s access in Latin America to training in technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The initiative is called “AWS Entrena Latinas,” a program developed together with Amazon Music, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the organization Laboratoria.

AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud, enabling people to create almost anything they can imagine. It offers the broadest variety of innovative cloud and AI capabilities and expertise, all backed by the most extensive global infrastructure, with industry-leading security, reliability and performance.

For its part, Laboratoria is an organization that encourages women to build quality careers in the AI era, combining skills, human support and community. It was created with the purpose of closing gaps in access to opportunities so that more women can decide about their professional future with autonomy, confidence and networks.

Pies Descalzos is a non-governmental organization founded in 1997 by Shakira, with the goal of guaranteeing quality, public and inclusive education for children in vulnerable communities and communities affected by displacement and violence in Colombia.

The goal of the “AWS Entrena Latinas” initiative is to reach one million women by 2028 and contribute to increasing female participation in the technology sector.

Women currently hold 26% of positions in the sector, and the program seeks to move toward 50% participation, according to data cited by Amazon Music.

“AWS Entrena Latinas” will begin in Colombia, where students and mothers linked to the Pies Descalzos Foundation will be able to access introductory courses and AWS certifications in artificial intelligence.

The initiative, which seeks to prepare women for new professional opportunities, including in areas such as music and technology, follows Shakira’s philanthropic focus on education.

The interest in promoting this type of knowledge among women lies in the fact that by 2030, 78 million new jobs are expected to be created worldwide, especially in technological fields.

It is also estimated that by 2028, 97% of companies will use artificial intelligence. That is why it is essential for individuals and organizations to promote continuous learning and develop new skills.

The “AWS Entrena Latinas” initiative will be carried out through live sessions in which participants will be able to ask questions and connect with other people who are also on their learning journey.

If they cannot connect live, the sessions will be recorded and available for consultation at any time.

The announcement of the participation of Shakira’s foundation comes as the singer is about to conclude her residency in Madrid, where she will give her final concert on October 12, a new date that was added to the 12 performances originally scheduled.

The farewell show will coincide with Hispanic Day and was presented as a “grand farewell with friends,” among whom will be Maluma, Beele and Dani Martin.

Afterward, the “Las mujeres ya no lloran” tour will continue on October 18 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and on November 28 in front of the pyramids of Giza, in Egypt. This will bring to a close the world tour that began in February 2025.
