USAID Y-RIE Programme delivers essential support to Hurricane Beryl displaced residents

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Youth Resilience, Inclusion, and Empowerment (Y-RIE) Programme recently extended vital support to families and individuals, primarily senior citizens, who were displaced from Carriacou to mainland Grenada following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl.

This support was provided in the form of care packages, aimed at addressing their immediate needs.

The distribution of 105 care packages was coordinated by participants of the Ignite Learning Business by Doing Business in Grenada project, alongside Y-RIE local staff, and received additional support from Frances Herrera, Principal Officer at the US Embassy in Grenada. The care packages were delivered to relocated residents residing in care homes, temporary host apartments, and state-sponsored rental homes.

Beneficiaries were identified and recommended by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) through the Ministry of Social Development. Each package contained essential items, including food, hygiene products, and other necessities, designed to support the displaced families during this challenging period.

Launched in Grenada in March 2023, the USAID Y-RIE Programme collaborates with both government and non-government partners to enhance social services for youth and their families. The programme focuses on improving learning outcomes for youth, increasing preparedness for the workforce, and strengthening the resilience of families and communities.
