On October 6, beloved BookTok author Ana Huang revealed that the first script of the Twisted Love pilot has finally hit her desk, meaning that the Netflix adaptation of her billionaire romance novel is coming sooner rather than later.
Seeing that the script physically exists — it’s real, readers! — got us thinking: Which scenes from Huang’s novel will actually make it on screen and which will get cut for the new medium? More importantly, which scenes are we dying to see and which ones are we fine seeing hit the cutting room floor? Don’t worry, we’ve made a list!
Before the Anaverse finally comes to life on TV with Twisted Love, we’re breaking down the top Alex Volkov and Ava Chen scenes we’re looking forward to seeing on our screens, as well as at least one meet-cute between future leads.
The opening rain scene
At the start of Twisted Love, Ava gets caught in the rain after a photography shoot and calls her brother Josh for a ride. However, when Josh turns out to be busy (wink wink), Alex rolls up to bring her to Josh’s going-away party. Of course, their car ride is full of wild tension and a stop at Crumble & Bake. Could C & B owner Sammy Yu from Huang’s previous novel If We Were Perfect make a cameo, too?
Operation Emotion
After Josh tells Alex to practically babysit Ava from next door, Ava’s besties Bridget, Jules, and Stella challenge her to attempt to pull any kind of emotion from her brother’s brooding billionaire bestie. Dubbed “Operation Emotion,” Ava’s challenge sets the course for their first amicable 1-on-1 time together, including binging sad movies and chowing down some disgusting cookies.
Bridget meets Rhys
Speaking of Ava’s besties, we’re going to need to see our Twisted Games lead Princess Bridget von Aschberg meet her sexy new bodyguard, Rhys Larsen. While we don’t expect to see any Bridget and Rhys romance during Season 1, the series could follow in Off Campus‘ footsteps and weave one book’s romance into another. We could definitely use a Bridget and Rhys bottle episode, just saying!
Ava’s run-in with Alex’s ex-fling Madeline
Who could forget Alex’s not-so-kind former hookup, Madeline, who spills his not-so-vanilla bedroom habits to Ava before pushing her in a pool — despite her aquaphobia? While we don’t see too much of Madeline outside of Twisted Love, she plays a crucial role in the first novel, so we can’t wait to find out who they cast in the chaotic role.
Ava’s PTSD confession
The foundation of Ava’s character is built on her childhood trauma, which has caused her to forget everything before an accident at age 9. While Twisted Love is a love story, there’s also a great deal of mystery when it comes to Ava’s childhood and Alex’s need for revenge. We’re just as eager to see that character depth on screen as we are for the romance and the spice.
The Alex & Ava swimming pool kiss
The first time things get a little steamy between Ava and Alex is during their first swimming lesson. After all, who wouldn’t trust their brother’s lightly scary best friend to teach them how to swim?! We’re convinced that readers are just as eager to see this scene as we are, so we have no doubt that this moment will make it into the series.
Alex & Ava’s childhood flashbacks
Alex and Ava’s childhood mysteries are slowly solved throughout the novel, so we’re hoping to see those memories play out in the adaptation, too. In our opinion, this would be best brought to life by flashbacks featuring a younger actor and actress playing the leads. Young Alex and Ava, here you come!
Alex’s betrayal of Ava & Josh
Anyone who has ever claimed that Alex Volkov has done no wrong certainly forgot about the reason he decided to room with Josh Chen in the first place. Throughout the entire novel, Alex is secretly plotting to get revenge on Ava and Josh’s dad, whom he believes killed his parents. While he truly does fall for Ava, his motive to get close to the siblings was sneaky, to say the least. Without his betrayal, there’d be no reason for him to grovel for Ava’s forgiveness.

Ava’s year in London
It’s time for some yearning! After Ava and Alex split, she moves to London, à la Belly’s move to Paris in The Summer I Turned Pretty. When Alex follows Ava across the pond, he pulls out all the stops trying to win her back.
Alex’s karaoke scene
Alex’s karaoke performance is a non-negotiable for us. He can sing a different song — we can accept that — but we need to hear that man sing, and he needs to be GOOD. Alex’s karaoke scene is a showstopper in the novel, which makes us even more eager to see (and hear) it come to life. Dare we say, this is our most anticipated scene of the whole book!
Josh & Jules crumbs
You can’t have a proper enemies-to-lovers romance without setting up that bad blood for multiple seasons before getting to the love story!
