Currently in production in Los Angeles and California’s Imperial Valley, the film will star Becky G as Maya Alvarado, the on-again, off-again love interest to Alex Guerrero, played by Carlos Sanson Jr. Tokischa will portray Xochitl Romero, Maya’s fiercely protective best friend.

“I have loved Becky and Tokischa for so long, as artists and as women who have never once asked for permission to be exactly who they are,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “From the very first moment I saw them together, I knew — Maya and Xochitl had found their home. They are a dazzling pair, and watching them light up this set has been incredibly thrilling as a first-time director. I couldn’t have asked for better humans. I’m so proud to have them fighting alongside us.”

House of Guerrero — rooted on the deep history of Latino boxing and its lasting culture — marks Tokischa’s acting debut in a film, while Becky has previously starred in various movies, including Power Rangers (2017) and Blue Beetle (2023).

Both the Mexican-American pop star and Dominican dembow artist join the cast led by Carlos Sanson Jr. as Alex Guerrero, Rodriguez as his older sister Paloma Guerrero, George Lopez as his father, Alejandro Guerrero, and Rosario Dawson as his mother, Elsa Guerrero.

Carlos Sanson Jr. and Tokischa, as well as producer Scott Budnick (CEO of 1Community), will be discussing House of Guerrero during the “Film and Music” panel at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Week, set to take place from Oct. 19 to 22 at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach. For tickets and more information, visit the Billboard Latin Music Week website.

Additionally, House of Guerrero is produced by Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla (Nonnas) from 1Community, Rodriguez’s I Can And I Will Productions with Molly Breeskin, and Justin Baldoni and Andrew Calof from Wayfarer Studios. Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath are Executive Producing for Wayfarer, with Sherrese Clarke and Niija Kuykendall from HarbourView Media Group, alongside Clare LoCicero and Alice S. Kim.  Wayfarer Studios, 1Community, HarbourView Media Group, and Clare LoCicero are co-financing the feature with tax credit financing provided by Three Point Capital.  UTA Independent Film Group is representing the film for worldwide sales.  Casting by Mary Vernieu and Lindsay Graham Ahanonu.
