(WKRC) – A federal judge has granted final approval to AT&T’s $177 million class-action settlement over two data breaches that exposed customer information. The settlement administrator announced the approval Oct. 2.
The agreement includes a $149 million fund for one data incident and $28 million for the other. AT&T has denied wrongdoing.
Customers with valid claims tied to both incidents could receive up to $7,500 in documented losses — up to $5,000 from the first incident and up to $2,500 from the second. The settlement notice says the losses must be documented and fairly traceable to the breaches.
Most claimants are expected to receive smaller tiered payments. Estimates range from about $6.50 to $40, depending on which breach affected them and the information involved. The final amounts will depend on settlement costs, approved fees and the number of valid claims.
The first incident, disclosed in March 2024, involved a data set containing customer information that appeared online. A second breach disclosed that July involved call and text records from a roughly six-month period in 2022.
