Yellowstone prequel star lands Netflix movie role

1923 star Aminah Nieves has landed a role in an upcoming Netflix movie.

The actor, who plays Teonna Rainwater in the Yellowstone prequel, joins lead actors Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson in Kathryn Bigelow’s currently-untitled thriller. Newcomer Malachi Beasley is also set to appear (via Deadline).

The film’s plot is being kept under wraps, though it’s been reported that it will be set at the White House as a national crisis unfolds. Character details have yet to be announced.

The movie, which marks Bigelow’s first project since hit 2017 thriller Detroit, also stars Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Gabriel Basso, Tracy Letts and Moses Ingram.

News of the film was first announced by the streamer during its Upfront presentation in New York earlier this year.

During the event, Netflix also teased the release of Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam Sandler, as well as the return of popular sci-fi series 3 Body Problem.

As for Nieves, the actor will next appear in the anticipated second season of 1923, which began production this summer.

The first season debuted on Paramount+ in 2022, and follows Jacob and Cara Dutton (played by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren) as they face a new set of challenges in 1920s Montana.

The show’s follow-up season will feature some significant changes as it moves filming away from Brute, Montana, not far from where the show is set. The team have now relocated to ATX Studios in Austin, Texas, where eight new episodes will be filmed.

Season two will also see a host of new faces join the cast, including This Is Us star Janet Montgomery and Dexter‘s Jennifer Carpenter.

Montgomery will play recurring character Hillary, who is described as “a thoughtful woman who does not want to see injustice go unpunished”, while Carpenter is set to portray US Deputy Marshall Mamie Fossett.

Yellowstone returns for season 5 part 2 on Sunday, November 10 in the US and Monday, November 11 in the UK. It streams on Paramount+.
