In Artificial Intelligence: Who’s in Control? News24 National Affairs Correspondent Jonathan Lea speaks to people here and overseas to investigate who stands to benefit from the AI revolution, who risks being left behind, and whether anyone is truly in control.
For some, the impact is already devastatingly personal. One woman reveals how she lost her job of 25 years after being replaced by AI, while a grieving mother shares the heartbreaking story of her 16-year-old son who died after seeking advice from ChatGPT.
Jonathan meets the people building the technological future and those fighting against it. Bestselling thriller writer David Baldacci describes the “horrifying” moment he watched ChatGPT produce a novel in his style and why he is taking legal action against Microsoft and OpenAI. In another alarming demonstration, a cybersecurity expert shows how easily Jonathan’s identity can be compromised, using only a photograph and a free app.
Jonathan Lea said: “This documentary has been about exploring whether AI makes us better humans or indeed, less human. There’s no doubt AI is a great ‘leveller’, I’m just not sure that for all the promises we fully understand the trade off or the actual human cost.
“What I’m concerned about is that we may end up turning humans into a secondary species on our own planet. That we are creating a technological master that will sit above all of us”.
