Kimi Antonelli will miss Thursday’s media day at the Mexico City Grand Prix due to a viral illness ahead of the weekend where he will likely become Formula 1 world champion.
A top nine in this Sunday’s race for Antonelli will ensure he becomes the sport’s youngest world champion at 20 years old – breaking Sebastian Vettel’s record by three years.
But the 20-year-old is having to recover from an illness ahead of Friday’s practice sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Mercedes said: “Kimi is feeling under the weather today as he recovers from a viral illness. As a precaution, the FIA have excused him from his mandatory media duties to give him the chance to rest head of the weekend.
“We expect him to be back tomorrow.”
