Liev Schreiber is making headlines, but not for his acting skills. The X-Men Origins star recently got into an exchange of words with a reporter while on the red carpet. Schreiber was in attendance for the premiere of his new Apple+ show Nocturne. Unfortunately, the reporter asked him a question that clearly didn’t sit right.
“Talk to people like you value what they do,” Schreiber said, via TMZ. “It’s not a f–king soundbite, especially when it’s being done in-house…We’re trying to make the show compelling. So, engage with the person like they’re an artist or an actor…Talk to people like they’re humans, not like they’re social media.”
Whatever it was that the reporter asked, Schreiber clearly felt it wasn’t in good faith. His comments hint at a dissatisfaction with the reporter, potentially because they were chasing social media hits and engagement, rather than telling a story or providing value to the public.
The reporter in question appeared to take everything in her stride. She remained smiling, continued to engage, and ultimately asked a fresh question that got Schreiber to begin a new dialogue.
“Witnesses tell us … Liev was clearly just passionate about “Nocturne” — and he didn’t like the questions the correspondent was asking. They also note things ended amicably, and everyone walked away happy,” TMZ reports.
Still, the back-and-forth was a glimpse into the current disconnect between reporters and the need for social media attention. After all, news is distributed via those social media channels these days, making everything a far tighter rope to walk.
Liev Schreiber Will Play Jonah Lynn in ‘Nocturne’
If there’s one thing most of us can agree on, it’s that Apple TV produces some exceptional television. Nocturne could be the latest in a long line of successful shows. Schreiber has been cast as the main protagonist, Jonah Lynn. Zazie Beetz will play his daughter, Saga Bauer.
“Ex-soldier Jonah Lynn leaves Philadelphia for a quiet life,” IMDB’s synopsis reads. “When serial killer Jurek Walter threatens his new home and family, Jonah must protect them, even as he sends his FBI agent daughter Saga to track the killer’s last victim.”
Nocturne will release globally on Friday, October 30.
