Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly made aware of a 2019 letter sent to police — which was later passed on to Meghan Markle — containing allegations of child sexual abuse against the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr.
A source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail Thursday that it was “unthinkable” the Royal Household had not been made aware of the letter, which sources previously told Page Six was written by Thomas Sr.’s late ex-wife, Roslyn Loveless.
The insider also told the outlet that Meghan, 45, and her husband, Prince Harry, 42, would not have received the letter “in isolation.”
“It was the police’s duty to make the Palace aware of the claims, and they will have done so,” the source said.
Page Six reached out to representatives for William and Kate, both 44, for comment but did not immediately hear back.
As previously reported, Thomas Sr., 82, is currently under investigation by the Cebu City Police Office in the Philippines after “hundreds, if not thousands,” of child sexual abuse images were allegedly discovered in his home by his son, Thomas Markle Jr.
Thomas Jr., 60, allegedly found the images inside several boxes stored among family “mementos,” telling the Sun last week, “When I found this material, I was horrified and I had no option but to report my dad.”
In a statement later shared with Page Six, Meghan said she was “deeply distressed” by the news, revealing that she had received a letter in 2018 containing similar “troubling and disturbing” allegations against her father, which she said contributed to their estrangement.
London’s Metropolitan Police later confirmed Saturday that the letter had been passed on to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s office in January 2019, but was not forwarded to any other law enforcement agencies.
Thomas Sr., for his part, has vehemently denied the allegations against him, dismissing them as “sick lies” and telling the Daily Mail, “I’m shocked, I’m hurt and I’m very upset that my son is making these accusations against me.
“I could never do what I’m being accused of. It’s the worst thing anyone could accuse me of,” he continued. “This is bulls–t. It’s just a bunch of lies. It’s sick. I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies.”
Additional child sexual abuse material has since allegedly been discovered by Daily Mail reporters in a storage unit rented by Thomas Sr. near his former home in Mexico.
The material, which allegedly includes books about pedophilia and magazines depicting the sexual abuse of children, was reported to the FBI.
Meanwhile, royal reporter Andrea Caamano exclusively told Page Six Wednesday that she did not “anticipate the royal family becoming involved in this situation.”
“Despite Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK, relations remain complicated, and I don’t see the Palace wanting to become involved in matters concerning Meghan’s father,” she added.
