Keisha Lance Bottoms’ election as governor of Georgia marked a watershed moment in United States history, as she’ll be the first Black woman in history to hold that office.
After beating Republican candidate Rick Jackson, Bottoms celebrated her win with an Instagram post alongside her daughter, which has received over 170,000 likes and included comments from droves of supporters extending congratulations.
Among those acknowledging Bottoms’ victory were various entertainers, many of them current or former Georgia residents who endorsed her campaign. Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx took time to show love to Bottoms, expressing his joy over her accomplishment.
“Beyond happy for you,” Foxx wrote in the comments. “Congratulations beyond well deserved!!!!!” 2 Chainz, Monica, and Kem also expressed their approval of Bottoms’ election as governor, while 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Big Boi dropped emojis in solidarity.
BET chairman Debra Lee, R&B singer CANDIACE, and Newark, New Jersey mayor Ras Baraka also highlighted the significance of Bottoms’ role as a high-ranking government official.
Hip-Hop artist Killer Mike, who has featured Bottoms on his Coversate with Killer Mike series and even attended Bottoms’ election watch party, shared photos of him and Bottoms on his Instagram and X accounts.
“Frederick Douglass Astro’s born and built to lead!” the Grammy Award-winning emcee wrote. “Congratulations Governor @keishabottoms from your friend, brother, supporter and proud constituent, Michael. Congratulations Georgia! We did it. More congratulations to come but, 1st #GoAstros.”
Other artists at Bottoms’ election watch party included Tyrese, Yung Joc and Boosie Badazz, with the latter expressing disappointment at being unable to vote for Bottoms because of his criminal record.
Formerly the mayor of Atlanta, Bottoms has been embraced by numerous members of the hip-hop community, with rappers like Offset, who publicized a wager predicting her victory over Jackson, gravitating towards her brand of politics and community efforts.
Bottoms will take the oath of office on Jan. 11, 2027, the first day of the General Assembly session.
