Some days it feels like it’s Courtney LaPlante’s world, and we just live in it. And today is no different. The Spiritbox frontwoman has joined forces with vaunted melodic hardcore band Comeback Kid for “Shedding Season,” the third single from the band’s upcoming album, Chosen Hell. The album, their first full-length with SharpTone Records, arrives Friday, November 6th. This latest single follows the title track, “Chosen Hell,” and “Yesterday’s Gone,” featuring Brendan Garone of Incendiary.
LaPlante has shown herself to be a dynamic, commanding presence in the Grammy-nominated Spiritbox, equally adept delivering beautiful melodies and scorched Earth distorted screams. When this collaboration was first teased across social media, some fans voiced a desire to hear some of LaPlante’s emotive clean singing to complement lead singer Andrew Neufeld’s fury. To those fans: too bad. This is LaPlante (and Neufeld) going all out from the word “go.” And, surprisingly, they affect similar timbres when screaming. If not for the accompanying music video, one would be hard-pressed to tell where Neufeld ends and LaPlante begins.
I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t really been following what’s going on with our neighbors to the north (we’ve got our hands full down here in the U.S., trust me), but whatever’s going on in Canada sounds brutal. These Canadians are pissed. Those vocals and that absolutely punishing guitar tone make for a vicious two-and-a-half minutes that rarely lets up. Produced by Fit For An Autopsy and Better Lovers guitarist Will Putney (Every Time I Die, Gojira, Knocked Loose), the track still manages to achieve a welcome level of subtlety between Neufeld and LaPlante’s fluid switch-offs and some well-placed sonic flourishes.
Shedding season / Cut the head that bites the hand / Shedding season / Draw the line into the sand / My patience wearing thin / Losing you was a solid win
Coinciding with the release of Chosen Hell, the band will kick off the “western” leg of their headlining Chosen Hell USA Tour 2026 with a performance at Flyover Fest in Oklahoma City on November 7th. Joining the band across the 14-date tour will be special guests Dead Heat, Fear Of Loss, Slow Pulse, Defeater, Barrio Slam, The Warriors, and Time X Heist. Beginning in January, the band will head across the pond for their Chosen Hell Euro Tour 2027 with special guests Haywire, Whispers, and Speedway. Click here for tickets and info.
And finally, Spiritbox will finish out their busy calendar year with a special one-off opening for the mighty Metallica on November 21st at Mohegan Sun and performances on all three days of Good Things Festival in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Tickets are on sale now.
