Tonal installed its strength training machines in nine WeWork locations across Northern California, Southern California, Washington, Oregon, and Texas. The partnership marks Tonal’s first move into workplace fitness, bringing the company’s adaptive resistance equipment to coworking spaces where users can train without commuting to a separate gym. Tonal CEO Todd Bartee, a former L Catterton partner appointed earlier this year, said the arrangement addresses conflicts between work schedules and fitness routines. WeWork members receive $1,000 off a Tonal purchase, while WeWork employees get $1,250 off; Tonal members get 25 percent off WeWork On Demand.

Tonal’s equipment uses real-time resistance adjustment and progress tracking to deliver strength workouts that adapt to individual users. The company recently launched a rental program that waives the first month’s fee and charges a monthly subscription thereafter, lowering the barrier to entry for its home gym system. Bartee said Tonal has no immediate plans for additional workplace partnerships but pointed to growing employer recognition that physical capability supports mental resilience and productivity.

Workplace amenities have become a competitive tool for coworking operators and office landlords trying to attract tenants in a post-pandemic market. Fitness offerings—ranging from on-site gyms to wellness programming—figure prominently in lease negotiations and tenant retention strategies, particularly among younger professionals prioritizing health and work-life integration. Tonal’s entry into WeWork spaces tests whether high-end connected fitness equipment can drive membership and differentiate flex office operators in a saturated market.
