Newswise — NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Anthony Fasulo has been appointed director of information technology and chief information officer for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In this role, he will lead Jefferson Lab’s Information Technology (Cybersecurity) Office and provide strategic oversight of enterprise application development and support, records management, cybersecurity, and computing and networking infrastructure.
“I understand the significant impact IT decisions have on the mission. My prior experience shapes my leadership style, driving me to lead with practicality while consistently focusing on how every decision supports and enables mission success,” Fasulo said.
As the lab’s lead IT executive, Fasulo will oversee efforts to define and deliver IT capabilities that support Jefferson Lab’s excellence in science and operations. Major projects include expanding IT practices to ensure lab staff receive the support they need as the laboratory expands its reach, undertaking a multi-year business systems modernization strategy and supporting Super Intelligence (SI) infrastructure initiatives across the institution.
“The work we accomplish over the next two to three years will define the laboratory’s direction and establish a legacy for decades to come. I’m inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit that exists here, and I am eager to leverage it. This is a remarkable moment for the laboratory, and I’m thrilled to be part of it,” Fasulo said.
Recognized for his broad IT leadership experience and cybersecurity expertise, Fasulo brings more than 20 years of experience managing IT and cybersecurity systems at DOE’s Sandia National Laboratories. He has led organizations of varying sizes and complexity through enterprise system modernization efforts, culminating in his current role supporting the mission needs of more than 17,000 employees, including high-performance computing. His leadership experience includes cybersecurity operations, enterprise SI adoption, network infrastructure, IT service management, and advanced nuclear energy programs.
Prior to Sandia, he held progressive IT and business leadership roles at Lovelace Health System, including director of IT services, financial systems, and senior director of managed care and contracting. He also served as an avionics systems supervisor in the U.S. Air Force.
Fasulo earned a Master of Science in cybersecurity at Georgia Tech, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
