Kris Lees’ unbeaten filly Khamis in tune for a music festival performance at Grafton

Debut winner Khamis is set to go on with the job when the Kris Lees-trained filly lines up in the Beyond The Valley Music Festival 7 December Benchmark 58 Handicap (1630m) at Grafton on Tuesday.

Lees produced Khamis for her first start at Grafton on a heavy track on October 1 and she did the job well when scoring by a widening 5.77 lengths when ridden by Mollie Fitzgerald.

Andrew Mallyon takes over the ride on Tuesday, and Lees thinks the daughter of Pariah can go on with the job.

“We had a bit of an opinion of her before she made her debut,” Lees said of Khamis. “She’d had a good grounding with a number of barrier trials and she lived up to what we thought she could do at her first start.

“The step up in distance looks like it should suit her and I’d like to think she can maintain her unbeaten record.”

Mallyon has several good rides at Grafton, including the Matthew Dunn-prepared Majorelle in the Team Aidan Markets @ CRJC 24 November Jacaranda Prelude Benchmark 82 Handicap (1125m).

Majorelle has seven wins and six placings to his name from 19 starts and comes into the Grafton event on the back of a last-start fourth at Doomben.

The Stirling Osland trained pair of Preachabull and Lady Of The Hunter will be Mallyon’s mounts in the Vilified At Stud Maiden Handicap (1730m) and CRJC AGM 27 November Country Boosted Class 2 Handicap (1430m) respectively.

Preachabull finished second behind Khamis at Grafton two starts ago, hitting the line well, and then ran sixth at Tamworth when last produced. Lady Of The Hunter was close-up when seventh at Grafton at her latest start and she was a winner at Moree four starts ago.
