Meeza and Microsoft jointly unveiled on October 14 a new sovereign private cloud offering for Qatari enterprises, with Azure Local serving as the underlying infrastructure layer, according to QNA. The companies said the integrated platform will be hosted within Meeza’s domestic data centre facilities and backed by its telecommunications, connectivity and managed services portfolio.
According to the proposed structure, Microsoft contributes the core Azure Local technology while Meeza handles onshore data centre facilities, hardware, network links, rollout, day-to-day operations and managed support. The result is designed to offer clients an in-country operating environment, an Azure-consistent management approach and one local provider accountable across the solution’s full lifecycle.
The service is also intended to enable hybrid cloud deployments, letting organisations spread workloads across whichever environments align best with their operational, security and regulatory needs. Clients may run selected workloads in Meeza-hosted Azure Local settings and link to Microsoft’s public Azure services when required, which the companies position as groundwork for future modernisation as technical and business conditions shift.
Meeza’s high-capacity telecommunications offerings are expected to link customers’ private cloud setups with Microsoft Azure, delivering infrastructure suited to hybrid cloud use cases, business continuity and disaster recovery. This covers replicating and restoring eligible workloads between Microsoft Azure and Meeza-hosted Azure Local environments, subject to the services and architecture each customer selects.
For government bodies, Meeza intends to offer a dedicated access path via its link to the government network, allowing access to eligible Azure Local workloads inside its data centres without going through the public internet. Alongside Meeza’s local operations and managed services, this is expected to deliver a flexible and dependable base for government, sensitive and mission-critical workloads.
Meeza CEO Mohammed Ali Al Ghaithani described the initiative as a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to advance Qatar’s digital transformation and address rising demand for secure, sovereign cloud services. He said pairing Microsoft Azure technologies with Meeza’s domestic infrastructure and integrated offerings, spanning data centres, telecommunications and managed services, would make possible a comprehensive cloud environment run and overseen locally inside Qatar.
Al Ghaithani further noted that a core advantage for Meeza is its capacity to unify the many elements of the technology stack under one trusted partner. He observed that spanning infrastructure and connectivity through cloud technologies, local data hosting, cybersecurity and managed services, Meeza can offer end-to-end assistance to clients at every stage of building, running and evolving their cloud environments.
Microsoft Qatar General Manager Ahmed Al Dandashi said that with Qatar’s digital transformation and artificial intelligence goals gaining pace, organisations require more flexibility in deploying and operating mission-critical workloads. He emphasised that the Microsoft Sovereign Private Cloud, built on Azure Local infrastructure, extends Azure capabilities into locally managed settings, giving clients more say over where their infrastructure, workloads and data reside.
Al Dandashi added that via its work with Meeza, Microsoft aims to deliver an in-country choice for Qatari organisations looking to reconcile cloud and AI innovation with digital sovereignty, resilience, security and operational control requirements. He said the solution would offer a trusted base for government entities, regulated industries and mission-critical workloads, while underpinning each organisation’s wider hybrid cloud strategy.
